We’ve all been hearing about the global skills shortages in the media for a while now. Every country has different economic needs, so it is natural that demand for skill sets will vary. So which skills does the world need urgently in order for economies to grow and prosper? We’ve broken down the skills required by a select group of countries to create a snapshot of jobs that will be in demand in the near future.

Australia

Australia’s most in demand skills focus on four areas: Technology, Healthcare, Construction, Professionals.
Technology – Australian businesses need to protect themselves from cyberattacks, push to automate processes, create seamless user experiences and utilise the valuable data available to them. So it makes sense that these roles are very much in demand right now: Full stack developer, Data scientist, Site engineer, Information Systems Manager, Cloud engineer.
Professionals: As construction remains strong in Australia, there has been a rise in demand for professional skills supporting these projects such as Architects, Surveyors and Civil Engineers, while Solicitors and Veterinarians are highly sought after currently also.
Healthcare Professionals: A shortage of healthcare professionals, particularly Registered nurses, has seen a rise in demand for roles in this sector. Other roles in demand include Medical Diagnostic Radiographers, Sonographers, Optometrists, Hospital and Retail Pharmacists, Physiotherapists, Audiologist, Midwives.
Construction –Tradespeople can take their pick when it comes to construction work, specifically Carpenters and Electricians.
Hong Kong
Businesses in Hong Kong are highly focused on generating sales and the proof is in the pudding. The most in demand skills in 2018 are Digital Marketing Manager, Product Development, Sales and Marketing Executive. With Hong Kong’s digital transformation in full swing, it makes sense that I.T roles such as Software Engineer and Software Developer are in high demand. The Financial Services industry in particular is said to be fuelling this demand.
Singapore
Singapore is also investing heavily in advancing digital transformation, with a strong focus on IT roles such as Data Analyst, IT Support and Software Engineering. According to research conducted by JobTech SG, good communication skills and meticulousness are highly valued by Singapore employers.
Malaysia
Investment in technology and automation across many sectors continues in Malaysia in 2018. Engineering roles are plentiful currently, with over 200,000 various engineering roles expected to open up over the next three years.  ICT roles such as Software Developer, Data Scientist and Systems Analyst are in high demand.
Other key skills in demand will be in the fields of Business, Accounting, Actuarial Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Education, Medicine and Communications.
New Zealand
New Zealand’s economy is strong in 2018, with many jobs available across a variety of sectors. IT & Communications specialists with current skill sets lead the list of in demand jobs in New Zealand, closely followed by Product Managers, who are needed to assist in the creation of apps and new software. The number of roles in Manufacturing, Transport and Logistics has increased and Aged Care workers are highly sought after as a result of New Zealand’s aging population.
